Making sure to compare electricity prices every few months can make a real difference to your monthly bill.

There are plenty of ways to compare various companies, and to make sure you get the best deal it is worth going online to search.

Some deals will give you a better deal if you sign up for both their gas and electricity tariffs, but these can also work out more expensive, so it is worth taking the time to compare electricty and gas.

Having just moved house we have realised how various properties can differ quite significantly in terms of utilities.

Our previous house was a mid terrace, set on four floors, if you count the cellar. When we compared electricity prices from that house to the flat we now live in, there is a real difference – we pay less now.

The flat where we now live runs purely on electricity, therefore the bill sometimes comes as a shock as we forget there is no gas bill, but it is still far more economic to heat up than our last house.

We made sure as soon as we moved that we searched for the best electricity deal we could find, and then we rung the company to make sure we could get an even better deal.

We now have an excellent deal, and we save money through paperless billing and paying monthly on a direct debit.

In six months time we will be going back online to check various prices of our current supplier and also competitors to see if we can broker a better deal.

Making sure you check the comparison search engines but also checking direct websites could saves quite a few pounds in the long run, and it really doesn’t take too long to do, once you get the hang of it.

How to get the best deal on your business gas

There are thousands of different energy tariffs for business gas, which are dependent upon your postcode, consumption levels, credit score and your supplier of choice. Nowadays, with the advent of comparison websites, it has become much easier to shop around for a deal that will suit your business needs.

One of the simplest ways to ensure a good deal is to have some understanding of the type of tariffs available to you. Most commercial gas prices are made up of a fixed unit rate, which is subject to taxation via VAT and the Climate Change Levy. This needs to be taken into account before you decide on which tariff to go for.

You will need to phone your current supplier and ask when your contract end date is so you can establish when you are able to move to a cheaper deal.

You will then need to choose how long you want your gas contract to last for. As with a mortgage, you will find that longer fixed periods have higher rates, but on the positive side they will give you greater peace of mind in a time of economic uncertainty.

If you are happy with the deal that is being offered to you, you can usually verbally accept a contract over the phone prior to receiving the appropriate documentation for signing and confirmation. By following these simple tips, you should always get the best deal on your business gas.
